Will There Be Another Push To Limit The Deductibility Of Advertising?

tax-1103675_960_720Media Post wrote an article last week called “Politics Will Have Wide Ranging Advertising Impact” about a speech Dan Jaffe gave to the Advertising Financial Management Conference.  Jaffe is the Association of National Advertisers EVP for government relations.  He says that a new congress will likely put some sort of tax reform on its agenda and some legislators have proposed limiting the deductibility of advertising expenses or requiring advertising expenses to be amortized over 10 years.

Insider’s take:  No specific proposals are in the legislative hopper but things could change after the election.  How about using tax reform to simplify the tax code? It really bugs Insider when government officials decide what is an acceptable business expense.  The partial deduction or amortization of ad expenses over 10 years just makes a complicated system worse.
