Insider has previously reported on ArtPop and it’s founder Wendy Hickey. Outfront Media recently published an interview with Wendy on their web site.
Here are some highlights:
- The concept of ArtPop started while Wendy was serving on the Board of Directors for the Poconos Arts Council. It focused on artists who needed a voice and, from time to time, the availability of billboard space.
- Originally was very informal but ArtPop became official with Wendy’s move to Charlotte N.C.
- ArtPop’s mission is to promote local artists work through available media space.
- In every city there is panel of judges (including Wendy). The main input for judges comes from the local art council that they partner with in the city. The panel judges the work and chooses the designated number of artists.
- Locations for ArtPop signs include Charlotte, Lehigh Valley, Las Vegas, Beaufort, Lakeland, Peoria, Tampa and Norfolk
- ArtPop has been a launching pad for several successful artists including Emily Andress.
