WEWHOville reports that The West Hollywood City Council will be asked to endorse an iconic proposed billboard known as “The Belltower” on Sunrise Boulevard. The project is a collaboration of Orange Barrel Media, Tom Wiscombe Architecture, the Museaum of Contemporary Art and Walter P Moore engineers.
If approved the project will be erected on the city’s public parking lot at 8775 Sunset Blvd.
The project will be a 72 foot high three sided structure that includes a digital and static screen as well as projected media. Orange Barrel media has guaranteed the city a minimum of $5 million of revenue over five years.
Insider’s take: Some cities like Indianapolis take a paranoid, not-in-my-backyard approach to digital signs. West Hollywood embraces digital signs, turns a parking lot into a space for public art and pedestrian engagement and generates $5 million in funds for city services over the next five years.
