Want to Help? How About One of our Own

Whether it is a Church, Community Outreach, Women’s Crisis Center or your local Salvation Army, charitable organizations struggle through recessions as much or maybe more than those of us in the for-profit world. Our industry does a terrific job of helping out in our communities.  Today, let us make you aware of a way to help a non-profit that makes all of us in the OOH industry look good.

A Charlotte Observer article yesterday wrote about Wendy Hickey, founder of ArtPop, and the struggle to raise funds for the organizations 2021 budget.  A lot of us know Wendy and her passion to promote local artists using the medium of Out of Home.

Insider talked with Wendy and wanted to pass along an update and some suggestions on how to help, if you are able.

Wendy, can you give us an update on ArtPop and how you have been impacted by the Coronavirus?

Our Charlotte program was in financial distress pre-covid, this has only exasperated that.  My paycheck will end on August 31.  Any 2020 juried in artist of our program will be protected and featured for an entire year, thank goodness.

What events do you have scheduled and what funds do you need to make them happen?

Here is the breakdown of need by city for 2020.  Our Atlanta program is brand new, unfortunately we opened it right along with COVID and fundraising ceased.
Renewal Cities 2020
  • Charlotte, NC Region  – Need $30,000 to get us through end of 2020.  To return in 2021 we need $95,000 (calendar year program)
  • Triad Region of NC – Need $19,700  Runs from June of 2020-June 2021
  • Columbus, OH – Need $19,200  Runs April 2020-April 2021
New City
Atlanta 21 county Region – Need $121,000 Will run from June 2020-Jun 2021
We have all the printing and space support we need, we need the fiscal support to get us through.  Then we can regroup and decide what is the best way to go for our 2021 and beyond programming.
So if someone wants to give ArtPop an assist, what are ways we can help?
The best way is a direct financial contribution. The easiest way is on our GoFundMe page.   We are currently working on opening up one Charity GoFundMe per city now, should a donor only want to fund a specific area.  That will be coming online soon. In the meantime if someone wants to donate to one of our cities they could designate that on the donation info.  We also can create meaningful, unique sponsorship packages for anyone or brand that may want to invest in our program… in any of our current markets… or even a new market.
Also, in our new  ShopArtPop.com we make a very small margin after printing and shipping is paid but every little bit helps and this way folks could decorate their home or office or give a gift.  We have been dreaming of the shop, finally launched it and Covid-19 hit at same time…
