Kylene, where is Tiffin Metal Products located and where and by whom was the company founded?

Tiffin Metal Products has been located in Tiffin, Ohio since the beginning, 1903, when it was formed by three local residents in a very small building and was known as The Tiffin Art Metal Company. We started out manufacturing quite an array of products, including decorative tin ceiling panels, metal shingles and products for the HVAC industry. The company grew and was locally stock-owned until the 1950’s when it was sold to a mini-conglomerate and changed hands a few more times before Willard P. Heddles relocated from Colorado in 1973. Will had been a funeral director and joined the company to assist with the sales of our previously offered burial vaults. Over the course of 7 years, Will bought out all shares and became sole owner of what was renamed Tiffin Metal Products Co. in 1980. Will retained that role until a fatal car accident in 2017. Tiffin native, Matt Dysard, is our current president.

What are your core product lines?

Today, our core product lines include billboard panels and accessories, along with lockers for law enforcement, first responders and military personnel. We also manufacture chutes for the material handling and distribution industry.  In fact, we have thousands of our patented SST chutes installed in Amazon facilities across the country, and we’ve been recently expanding our efforts overseas as well.

I understand that Tiffin Metal has a significant history with the Outdoor Industry?

Our Outdoor division was established in 1928 when our company developed an all-steel panel to replace wood construction. At the time, this was groundbreaking for the industry as wood panels were very costly due to decay and loss. We clearly did something right because this basic pattern we designed in the 20’s is still retained in our line today, in the form of our standard vertical sections. Outside of that, we also brought several innovative products to market, including the Panel-Free hurricane frame and Windguard Trim.

How has the move towards digital billboards impacted your relationship with the industry?

Digital boards are fantastic, but static faces haven’t gone away. Advertisers know static billboards are a cost-effective, proven way to make an impression 24-7. So, with that, my relationship hasn’t changed much with my customers as most companies offer traditional boards as an option. There have been some innovations along the way to help make static ads pop, including 3D vinyls and extension kits.  We carry a great extension kit to really take your ad to the next level and get everyone thinking outside the board.

If I currently own a billboard plant, what products should I be buying from Tiffin?

In addition to the traditional horizontal and vertical sections, we offer a variety of trim, aprons, imprints and can also provide lighting options. We also have behind-the scenes, adjustable brackets available for clean-look wallscapes that are really popular. If you have wood structures and cracked or broken poles, we’ve designed a lightweight panel-less system and pole reinforcement kit that will help extend the life of your structure. We’ve been in the business for so long because we listen to our customers and create solutions for their pain points. We’re here to help.
