Pete Hautem has 44 years experience in selling out of home. Here are a couple of his keys to effectively selling out of home.
Believe in what you’re selling.
You’ve got to believe in the concept you’re selling. If I didn’t believe in out of home I wouldn’t have been doing this for 44 years and loving every single minute of it. If you don’t believe in it, your prospect/client definitely won’t believe in it
Be a consultant, not a sales person.
So many sales people, especially at big companies are under pressure every single day to sell a billboard to somebody before they come back into the office. When you’re under that kind of daily pressure you lose your ability to think like a consultant or an educator. You’ve only got one thing on your mind. “I’ve got to get a signed contract”. Every successful Out of Home salesperson I’ve ever known thinks about the client first. We’re not used car salesmen. We’re not in a retail store selling ties and shirts and hats. We are selling a service. We’re selling an intangible product that’s designed to help our clients sell tangible products. That’s what makes us consultants!
