In June 2016 Transport of London banned junk food ads in transit and subway stations. Yesterday it went a step farther and banned all food ads. “There’s an indisputable link between food and obesity,” said Ida Raddish, London Transport’s Head of Ad Acceptability. “We should not encourage people to become obese by eating food.”
London transport is also considering a ban on ads for cars which killed 1,710 pedestrians in 2017 in the United Kingdom and a ban on ads with images of a beach or swimming pool as 400 people drown in the UK every year and thousands more suffer traumatic near-drowning experiences.
