Transit Ridership Up 7% in 1Q 24 but Still Below Pre-covid

US transit ridership was up 6.8% during the first quarter of 2024 according to the American Public Transportation Association First Quarter 2024 Ridership report.  This is the 12th straight quarter of ridership improvement after steep declines during covid.  The industry still has a ways to go to recover from covid.  Ridership for the first quarter of 2024 was 24% below ridership in the first quarter of 2019 prior to covid.

Billboard Insider suspects that this is because of the rise of work at home.  If employees work at home 1 day a week post covid you can project that transit ridership would be off 20%.

Here’s the quarterly ridership data since 2019.
