Last week Billboard Insider had coffee with Haleigh Bayer Powell and Jena Powell, two of the four Powell siblings who work for Huntington Outdoor. Jena is the company’s VP of Sales and Marketing and also a representative in the Ohio State House. Haleigh Powell Bayer is the company’s Director of Client Relations. Some of the things we talked about:
Your parents were remarkable people.
Thank you! Our parents and the support of our community are a big reason we were able to start our entrepreneurial journey at a young age. We all went into business together as kids, raising produce we could sell from the farm and at farmer’s markets. Over the next eight years, we grew from one roadside stand in front of our grandparents’ home selling sweet corn to serving small towns and cities in our community. The lessons learned during those long hot summers were pounded into us and are the basis upon which we have grown and operated Huntington Outdoor Billboards.
Did you and your brother Justin (Huntington Outdoor’s President and CEO) really build a cabin in the woods?
Absolutely! It was our crowning achievement when we were kids. Growing up on a farm with lots of trees was a child’s dream. Reading books about frontiersmen inspired us to build our own genuine, handmade cabin in the woods. This cabin was complete with brick floors, a loft, and a metal roof. This project taught us skills of resourcefulness and working together that we still use today.
Congrats on just passing 2,000 faces. What does the future hold?
Thank you! This is a huge accomplishment for us and we couldn’t have gotten here without our team. We had a huge fall party to celebrate and it was such a joy to remember and appreciate the accomplishments of everyone who has helped us reach this goal. We even had fireworks!
We wake up every day with a desire to serve our clients and be the very best we can at our jobs. We have recently expanded into some southern states and love the southern hospitality we have been receiving from new clients and partners.
