The Sussex County Council discussed sign ordinance changes at a June 21 meeting according to Coastal Point. Georgetown attorney David Hutt was there representing Clear Channel Outdoor, Geyer Signs, Hocker Signs, Jack Lingo Realtors, JD Sign Company, Ocean Atlantic, Phillips signs, Inc, Premier Outdoor Media, Rogers Sign Co and Timmons Outdoor Advertising. The sign company group proposed their own ordinance to the County Council after taking issue with an ordinance proposed by the County’s planning staff.
The Sussex County Council discussed the following topics.
- Whether to ban V-signs. The proposed ordinance would do so.
- Whether a property owner should be allowing to have more than 1 sign on a property. The current proposal limits signs to 1 per property.
- Whether digital signs should be prohibited on 2 lane roads. A majority on the County Council is against this proposal.
Insiders take: Banning V-signs could have the unintended consequence of signs with an unsightly, vacant back.
