Fall protection is the most commonly issued OSHA citation in the construction industy. Effective August 1, 2016 OSHA increased the fine for safety violations to $12,471 for a first offense and $124,709 for a repeat offense. Outdoor billboards are visible. Any OSHA inspector can drive by, see your crew on a billboard and to decide an inspection is in order. Make sure employees who climb follow these OSHA guidelines in order to avoid getting cited for a violation:
- Have a safety belt or a body harness with an 18 inch rest lanyard.
- Have both hands free of tools or materials when climbing.
- Use a vertical safety cable when climbing above 50 feet.
- Be physically trained and capable of climbing.
