St Mary’s Sign Regulations Criticized.

UnknownBaynet reports that proposed sign regulations in St Mary’s county have been criticized as too restrictive.  The county’s attorney has proposed rules which:

  • limit sign size to 9 square feet on residential property and 32 square feet on non-residential property.
  • prohibit signs which are lit internally.
  • require amortization of non-conforming signs.

If enacted the proposed rules would prohibit billboards, digital signs and transit advertising.  The County Commission will wait for a recommendation from the planning commission before deciding on the new rules.

Insider’s take: Looks like the proposed rules are an attempt to prohibit any new billboards and to eliminate existing boards.  The local outdoor companies and businesses need to get input to the County Commissions on the business and public service benefits of billboards.
