SignSprings Installation

SignSprings has an innovative spring system which makes billboard vinyl installs easy.  In November SignSpring held an installation even in Oklahoma for Arnold Outdoor, Look Outdoor and Mollman Outdoor.  At the installation event SignSpring personnel worked with with Arnold Outdoor’s installers to retrofit a poster frame to the SignSprings system.  Insider talked with SignSpring’s Billy Stanley about the install.

Billy what board were you retrofitting?

A 30 sheet 12 by 25 billboard which had aluminum moulding.  The billboard had moulding but Arnold Outdoor had been wrapping 12 oz vinyl over the poster frame.  We retrofitted the board so that installs can be done using the SignSprings system rather clips or wrapping.  The install took 43 springs for a total cost of $178.

What were conditions like?

30 degrees and high winds.   High winds create havoc for most clip systems but SignSprings handles high winds just fine.

What were the steps to the installation?

The retrofit process took about 30 minutes.  Step one was to remove the old vinyl wrap from the poster face.

Then we drilled holes through the outside of the poster frame for our springs.  The holes are spaced 18 inches apart.  90% of our retrofits occur without us having to remove moulding.

Then we pushed the springs through the inside of the poster frame and attached them with nuts.

Finally we installed the new vinyl and attached the vinyl to the springs.  The SignSprings system is designed to allow a single person install but in this case we used two installers because our employee was teaching an Arnold Outdoor employee.

Completed retrofit and install.  Notice how tight the vinyl is even though winds are blowing at 40 miles an hour.  The springs put the vinyl under steady trampoline-line tension which prevents the wind from knuckling the vinyl.

What are the advantages of the signsprings system?

It provides a more reliable, long-lasting install than clips.  The wind won’t play havoc with your boards.

Flexibility because it handles light and heavyweight vinyl.  We use 2.3 oz polyethelene vinyl on boards that we are rotating.  We use 7 oz or 12 oz vinyl on our long term installs.

Cost savings by providing a provides a 4 minute install as opposed to a 20 minute install if you’re wrapping.
