Reports from San Mateo, CA initially indicated the County was looking at potentially allowing the construction of billboards on county owned land along Highway 101 and Interstate 280. It did not take long before local citizen groups raised their concerns in correspondence to County Supervisors. The County responded by clarifying they will not be considering I-280 location but will be considering a feasibility study for LED signs along Highway 101 where billboards currently exist.
Insider’s take is that there can always be a reasonable response to meeting the desire of a community to protect scenic areas while maximizing potential revenue for the county through new billboard locations or upgrading static faces to digital.
