Another big city is considering the benefits of large digital signs. OUTFRONT and the Urban Activation Institute are spearheading an attempt to develop an arts and entertainment district which would include digital signs.
San Antonio Report quotes a city staffer as saying that the signs will help activate spaces and provide additional lighting to enhance interest and safety in addition to generating $750,000 to $1 million a year for the City of San Antonio.
There are currently 884 billboard structures in San Antonio. In June 2023, the San Antonio city council approved a plan to allow 24 new digital billboard structures over the next three years with a 4:1 takedown ratio.
