Chris Cowlbeck, Becky Smith, and the rest of the crew at IBO are once again planning a fun and educational Spring Conference in Louisville at the Hyatt Regency on April 2 through 5. There will be the usual mix of dinners and breakout sessions for networking and catching up with friends and colleagues from across the County, as well as practical and informative topics presented by industry leaders. Chris, Mike, and I will be presenting this time on “Practical Legal Issues in Outdoor Advertising: Permitting, Lease, and Condemnation Disputes.” IBO members and billboard operators in general encounter legal problems regularly, especially in areas involving permitting, denials, cancellations, and other government disputes; sign ownership, lease cancellation, rights of first refusal, and other disputes with lessors; and the confusing and expensive condemnation of sign structures and leaseholds. We at Rothfelder & Falick, as legal counsel to IBO and many of its members, are very familiar with these issues, and we’ll present at the Conference the recent cases and statutes, procedures, sample lease language, and suggestions to guide the operator through these and other legal disputes.
While presenting at IBO conferences, we always try to leave time for questions and answers from the audience. And, indeed, it often seems like this is the most popular part of our talks, as members carry over our discussions to the breakout sessions and dinners. So, this year, we thought we’d enhance the opportunity to address more personalized questions, whether during our presentation or with members on the breaks. As such, if you’re attending the Conference and would like to have Chris, Mike, and I talk about particular problems you’re encountering, send us an email or give us a call in advance. The following are the emails and cell numbers for us: Chris Rothfelder crothfelder@rothfelderfalick.com 713-301-1251; Mike Falick mfalick@rothfelderfalick.com 713-553-6614; and Richard Rothfelder rrothfelder@rothfelderfalick.com 713-962-6300. In addition, let us know if you’d like us to forward to you the power point we’re going to present at the Conference, or if we can help on anything else. See you in Louisville soon!
