Good news for roadside billboards and transit in the latest miles travelled and transit ridership reports.

• Miles travelled on US streets and roads increased by 2.8% during the month of October 2024 according to the FHWA October 2024 Traffic Volume Trends report.
• Cumulative miles travelled was up 1.0% year to date through October.

Here’s the data.

Transit ridership continues to rebound according to the American Public Transit Association 3Q 2024 public transit ridership report.

• Total transit ridership increased by 4.7% during the third quarter of 2024.  Bus ridership grew 7.25%, followed by light rail (up 7.2%), commuter rail (up 6.4%) and heavy rail (up 0.12%).
• Total transit ridership was up 6.5% year-t0-date for the first 9 months of 2024.   Bus ridership grew 9% followed by commuter rail (up 9.4%), light rail (up 6.3%) and heavy rail (up 2.3%).
