Richard Headrick RIP

Richard Headrick, the owner of Laurel Mississippi headquartered Headrick Outdoor Media passed away this week one day before his 78th birthday.  Here’s a link to Headrick’s Leader Call obituary.

The Headrick companies were formed by A.B. Headrick in 1927 as a sign fabricator and installer.  Richard Headrick took over the business from his dad.

In 1976, Headrick Outdoor, Inc. began installing billboards all across the southeast. It is one of the largest privately owned outdoor billboard companies in the nation with 3,000 faces in 10 states. Headrick Outdoor sold its Iowa assets to CK Outdoor in 2018.   In addition to business, Headrick was active in christian ministries caring for bikers, homeless and addicted people.

“Richard Headrick was an inspiring OOH legend who built billboards and rebuilt people,” said Nancy Fletcher, former President and CEO of OAAA.

Tantara Capital’s Steve McNeeley says Headrick “was truly one of a kind…a real class act who was inspired and inspiring.  Here’s a picture in Richard’s office when Kevin Gleason and I last visited.  Headrick had a 3′ diameter gong outside his office that you had to strike before entering.”

Pictured in Headrick’s office left to right are Buddy McCardle – Headrick CFO, Steve McNeeley – Tantara Capital, Richard Headrick and Kevin Gleason – Adams Outdoor Advertising President and CEO.
