Regulatory Roundup – March 29, 2019

Los Angeles Times reports that Fountain Valley wants to revamp 56 aging bus shelters.  They were installed by Clear Channel Outdoor in 1996.  Great idea except that the city’s transit contracts are only 6 months long.  Any wonder that Clear Channel Outdoor does not want to spend the money?  At least the Mayor Pro-tem gets it: “I understand Clear Channel’s position in regard to investment. Six months at a time; I wouldn’t invest either,” she said.”

Newbury Newport News reports that 25 residents in Salisbury, MASS objected to plans for Outdoor Media Properties, Inc. to build a 14′ by 48′ digital billboard at 109 Rabbit Road.  One of the people objecting to the billboard was a farmer who had a 1,500 acre vegetable field and was worried that the light from the billboard would impact pollinating insects.  MASSDOT will hold a hearing on the sign on April 11 in Boston.  Insider asked the OAAA’s Kerry Yoakum about the impact of digital billboards on pollinating insects and he said:“I have heard similar unsubstantiated claims presented in other areas of the country, but without an environmental impact study claiming otherwise, I am not sure how it could be claimed that a digital billboard would impact pollinating insects during the day.”

Have you ever encountered an objection to digital billboards because they interfere with insects?  Let Insider know using the form below.
