• Rate This Board by Out of Home Creative

    Rate This Board allows a billboard designer to rate a random piece of billboard artwork using the following scale: 1 (not good), 2 (below average), 3 (average), 4 (very good), 5 (great). Then the designer talks about what they may have done differently for outdoor advertising. This week’s rating is provided by Melody Roberts, an OBIE nominated billboard designer and founder of Out of Home Creative, an outdoor advertising design firm specializing in out of home design for businesses, agencies, media buyers and out of home companies. Melody has been in the outdoor industry since 1999. 

    Wawa – Rating 4

    • A clean layout and this tagline complements the image which entices commuters to wake up with a good cup of coffee.
    • Wawa’s logo is represented clearly and since this is a Poster which is normally low to the ground, they can get away with it being small.
    • I rated this billboard design a 4 instead of a 5 because even though the creative is laid out well, the color scheme is a little bland. Without geographic-context of this brand, I’m also left wondering if Wawa is a coffee company, shop or well-known gas station in this market.
