• Rate This Board by Greg Callaham

    Rate This Board allows a billboard designer to rate a random piece of billboard artwork using the following scale: 1 (not good), 2 (below average), 3 (average), 4 (very good), 5 (great). Then the designer talks about what they may have done differently for outdoor advertising.     Rating: 2 (below average)

    • A lot of people know who Jason Mraz is and what he does. But not everyone.
    • It’s a beautiful, simple ad. It would look very pretty in a magazine. I’m almost certain the elements of this ad were constant across all print and digital media for branding consistency. No matter what size rectangle it was in, the ad looked like this.
    • Outdoor advertising is about instantly seeing, reading, understanding, and retaining information. The text is a little thin and could be larger. The double logo in the lower left is too small to read unless you happen to be standing under the board to take this picture.
    • The ad does not inform non- Mraz fans about the subject of the ad or why they should find out more. This billboard design earns a 2 (below average).
    • I would have pushed for something more like this:
