Rate This Ad allows a billboard designer to rate a random billboard ad using the following scale: 1 (not good), 2 (below average), 3 (average), 4 (very good), 5 (great). Then the designer talks about what they may have done differently for outdoor advertising. This week’s rating is provided by Wes Frick of Billboard Design.com.
Curb Your Antisemitism
Rating: 4 (very good)
StopAntisemitism is an organization and movement with hundreds of thousands of followers dedicated to identifying, exposing, and combating antisemitism in all its forms.
  • During this political season, we are seeing a ton of new designs on the street. Visually, this bright yellow background billboard grabs your attention and the messaging makes the viewer think, which in turn successfully creates and raises awareness and word of mouth to get people thinking and talking to each other about it.
  • The shadow effect on it makes it look 3D on the road and “pops” with the shadow on the right arm, and the idea is mostly focused on the main message to increase word of mouth and get the people talking about the movement, effectively making people aware to treat everyone with respect regardless of the war that’s currently going on in the world.
  • The only thing I would do differently is to make the shirt pop off the billboard to increase the size of the text, but extensions were not available on these locations. Due to this, I’d still give it a 4 because it’s an effective design that is working right now
