Public is Saying NO to Hawaii Billboards

Jean-Paul Gedeon, President and CEO JPG Media

When Insider heard the news on the proposed Hawaii Billboards in the New Aloha Stadium Entertainment District, we reached out to JPG Media President, Jean-Paul Gedeon.  JPG has operated an OOH business in Hawaii for about 20 years and found their niche focusing on Malls, Supermarkets, Drugstore / Pharmacy, Truckside, Gas Stations and C-Stores.

Jean-Paul, what is your read on the community response to the billboard proposal?

The public is saying NO in a poll by the only newspaper company.

How about from your perspective?

I highly doubt Billboards or Wallscapes will be allowed. There are many loud voices in opposition. Many people in Hawaii have been raised to despise the word billboards.

There are ways to do this, but any publicity facing signage proposal is under a microscope. The Outdoor Circle is the main opposition, and even though I don’t agree with everything the members do, overall Hawaii is a beautiful place and it’s marketed as that too. A billboard may take away from the macro picture of paradise.
