Pot Dispensaries Use Billboards.

DamaLeafly has an article titled “How Billboards Became The Cannabis Industry’s Ad Darling.”  The article shows pot billboards in Denver, Boston and Scottsdale and says billboards offer one of the few available alternatives to pot dispensaries because they are excluded from paid advertisements on facebook, twitter or google.

There are several marijuana dispensary billboards in the Seattle area.  Insider hears from one Washington billboard company that billboards are popular as a way of skirting state regulations limiting a marijuana dispensary’s retail signage to 1,600 square inches (that’s a 3 feet by 3 feet sign).  Washington State rules also prohibit marijuana advertising:

  • on buses
  • on bus shelters
  • within 1000 feet of a school, playground, rec center, child care center, public park library or game arcade.

Insider’s take: You need to think through what your billboard company policy will be on accepting marijuana advertising because a pot dispensary will probably ask to go on one of your boards if your state de-criminalizes marijuana.
