Voters in Pomona, California will have the opportunity to approve or disapprove a change in the city’s zoning ordinance allowing additional billboards to be built in the city. The original ordinance was approved by voters in 1993 placing a cap on the number of billboards. City Measure Y amends the current ordinance allowing:
- The installation of new billboards in 10 specific points along State Routes 57,60 & 71
- The new signs could be either static or digital displays
- The city of Pomona would receive $1 million for each of the signs, paid out in monthly fees over 40 years
If passed, this would be the first electronic billboards in the city.
The citizens of Pomona needed 6,500 signatures on a petition to take the proposal to a vote. Bulletin Displays, out of Long Beach, had been working with the city for years without result. If voters approve the measure on June 3rd the new signs could go up as early as next spring.
