Pete Hautem Dreams About Out of Home For Our Benefit!

Life is strange—but beautiful. Two nights ago, I dreamt about Outdoor Advertising. Yep. You read that right. After 44 years in the business, I still remain enthusiastic about the business and even dream about it occasionally.

In my dream, all Out-of-Home had the same success and everyone’s business was flourishing. Small markets, medium markets, and large markets were sold out on an annual basis and life was wonderful.
Wait! Was that a dream? No, I think it was a premonition of days to come if we just follow the basic principles of sales and apply them daily to our industry. What are those principles? Let me give you my four most important characteristics/principles of a successful sales person.
  1. HONESTY! If you don’t have it, you won’t be successful in anything!
  2. INTEGRITY! Don’t ever lose sight of the fact that, if you don’t have integrity about yourself and the company you represent, nobody will listen to you or respect you.
  3. ENTHUSIASM! This is really quite simple. If you aren’t enthused to get up everyday and present your company’s products and services in an enthusiastic way, you will never get anyone to listen to you. Nobody wants to listen to a sales person who does not have enthusiasm about themselves and their product. Always remember. As a sales person, YOU are the face, ears, and voice of the company you represent. Be proud of it.
  4. PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE! Why did I put this characteristic last? Well, without the first three, product knowledge doesn’t mean a thing. Really that simple. A company can fill your brain with product knowledge every day. It cannot fill your brain with HONESTY, INTEGRITY, and ENTHUSIASM. You have to acquire those characteristics on your own.
Out-of-Home is the greatest medium on earth in my opinion. If you believe in yourself, display trust, and have the common sense to put your customer’s needs first while displaying the three ingredients of successful people, you and your company will be successful every single day.
Are the four items mentioned above the only four keys to success? Of course not. But, without them, your job will be very difficult.
