OUTFRONT Suing San Jose

OUTFRONT is suing the city of San Jose over the decision to grant two digital billboards at the San Jose Airport to Clear Channel Outdoor.  OUTFRONT contends the billboards should have been awarded as part of a competitive bidding process.  The city claims it is authorized to approve the digital signs under the existing airport contract.  Clear Channel Outdoor has agreed to remove 12 static billboard faces in exchange for the two new 1,000 square foot digitals along Highway 101 at the airport.

Billboard Insider’s take:  If you have rules you have to follow them.  OUTFRONT contends that the city’s 2018 policy rewrite, which ended a ban on new billboards, requires new billboards to be awarded after a competitive bidding process.
