Outdoor Advertising Accidents Decline

OSHA has a searchable database on accidents and fatalities.  Insider sorted the database based on the NAICS code 541850 (outdoor advertising) and the results were encouraging.

  • Accidents and fatalities are trending down.  Annual outdoor advertising accidents and fatalities were 1.6 and 0.8, respectively, for the last five years versus a 15 year average of 3.2 and 1.8, respectively.

  • Safety training should focus on preventing falls and electrocutions.  Falls accounted 56% outdoor advertising accidents over the past 15 years.  Electrocutions accounted for 31% of outdoor advertising accidents over the past 15 years.  Other items (e.g. collapsing structures, falling items, overturned lift trucks) accounted for 12% of outdoor advertising accidents over the past 15 years.
