Out of Home Vehicle Risks By Region

Insider ran across an interesting article in Property Casualty 360 showing that the cause of vehicle damage varies greatly by region in the US.  This is worth going over with your out of home vehicle fleet drivers in your next safety meeting.  The takeaways:

  • Drivers everywhere need to be alert for rear end accidents.  Rear end collisions were a top  three cause of vehicle damage claims in every region of the country.
  • Drivers in the Great Lakes and Mid-Atlantic states need to be alert to avoid animal collisions, which accounted for almost one-third of all claims.
  • Drivers in the South Central and Midwest states need to be alert to hailstorm damage risks which accounted for two-thirds of all damage claims in the South Central states and half of all damage claims in the Midwest states.  Here are links to Accuweather and Elephant Auto insurance articles on preventing hail damage to vehicles.
  • Drivers in the Southwest states need to be alert to vandalism and vehicle theft risks which accounted for almost half of all claims.
