Oprah and Animal Rights Group Know How to Communicate

Two current examples of Outdoor as a communication and free speech platform come courtesy of media mogul Oprah Winfrey and animal rights advocates LA Animal Save and The Animal Alliance.

This month, Oprah Winfrey did something she had never done before.  She dedicated the cover of The Oprah Magazine to someone other than herself – Breonna Taylor.   In conjunction with the magazine release. The Oprah Magazine placed an order for 26 billboards, featuring the magazine cover, in the greater Louisville KY area.  The signs also refer to Until Freedom, a social justice organization that has pushed for police accountability in Taylor’s death. Taylor lived in Louisville.

MynewsLA.com reports that animal rights advocates have put up 19 billboards across Los Angeles that connect the eating of animals to pandemics, and pay tribute to an activist killed in Canada earlier this summer while giving comfort to pigs on the way to slaughter.

The billboards, which went up July 27 for four weeks, are in neighborhoods ranging from Hollywood, Silver Lake and Echo Park to downtown L.A.

The campaign was organized by LA Animal Save and The Animal Alliance. Both groups are trying to make the connection between the COVID-19 pandemic and what they see as the harmful effects of meat eating and the factory farm industry.
