Happy New Year! As we step into 2024, the notion of commitment echoes through the famous words of Yoda from “The Empire Strikes Back”: “Do. Or do not. There is no try.” While I may not be a Star Wars enthusiast, this particular line resonates universally.
Saying “I’ll try” often hints at a lack of commitment. Anyone can attempt something, but true dedication involves a willingness to fully commit. Some may argue, “I’m trying hard to be the best OOH professional I can be. Isn’t that enough?” Trying is a start, but real transformation occurs when you commit wholeheartedly. The shift in perspective is profound. It’s about being “all in” without the option of backing out, ensuring that you are the architect of your plan, not a mere participant.
Consider this: Would you ever use phrases like “I’ll try to protect my children and keep them safe,” “I’ll try to love my spouse/significant other,” or “I’ll try to stop at the red light”? The answer is likely a resounding “No.” Commitment is inherent in these aspects of life. Your belief system aligns with your actions, creating a sense of conviction. When you genuinely believe in something, you go to great lengths to make it a reality.
In recent weeks, our OOH Sales Mastery clients embarked on a journey to uncover their core values, identify meaningful aspects of their lives, and set personal goals across seven dimensions: Family, Social, Educational, Spiritual, Physical, Financial, and Professional. Commendably, they took the critical first step towards ensuring success in the coming year.
However, setting goals is just the beginning. The real test lies in our commitment to taking actionable steps. Reflect on your life, both personally and professionally. Where are you merely “trying” instead of wholeheartedly committing? The distinction between the two can shape the trajectory of your personal and professional life in the year ahead. Remember, in the words of Yoda, “Do. Or do not. There is no try.” May 2024 be a year of unwavering commitment and accomplishment for us all.
