Insider had written early in June about the North Carolina legislature passing House Bill 198 and a subsequent veto by Governor Roy Cooper. Some good news to end the week, we heard from NCOAA Executive DIrector, TJ Bugbee and he shared that the veto was overridden by the House (74-42) and the Senate (30-13) this week.
Here is a quote from TJ:
“NCOAA commends the North Carolina General Assembly in overriding the veto of House Bill 198. North Carolina has consistently ranked as one of the best states for business, and state lawmakers have again shown their commitment to local businesses in North Carolina. Local businesses drive outdoor advertising, and outdoor advertising drives business locally.”
Insider Take: Congrats to the NCOAA and how effective a cooperating and well run state association can be in moving forward initiatives for the industry. When it comes to outdoor advertising, it’s also worth noting the importance of hiring a strong lobbying firm, which TJ says has been vital for NCOAA. In North Carolina, NCOAA utilizes Sandy Sands and Ross Barnhardt with Sands Law.
