Outfront Media had a request last week before the Montville NJ Township Zoning Board to replace two static billboards for new digital billboards. Tap into Montville reported that a proposal on #1 Route 46 East would replace a two-sided 238 square foot board that had been in place for 60 years with a new single face 231 square foot digital. The proposed replacement on #86 Route 46 West was a straight swap from a static to a digital of equal size. he process started back in September 2016 and involved 4 meetings.
The final vote included a motion to increase the time frame for message change to ten seconds per flip from eight and approved the #86 Route 46 West sign while denying the #1 Route 46 East replacement. One member switched their vote on the denied sign with no written explanation.
Insider’s Take: The article did note that the denied sign had a wetland area that would be disturbed during construction and then repaired. Outfront had obtained a permit from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, but that may have swung the vote.
