Porlier Outdoor operates a 400 face billboard plant including 6 digital faces between St Louis and Kansas city.  The firm was founded by Brent Porlier and is run by President Melissa Porlier.  Billboard Insider talked with Melissa Porlier about what’s new.

You grew up in the business didn’t you.

 I did and some of my earliest memories are dropping by signs with my dad so he could wind time clocks, playing with my sisters in the family van while my dad climbed the structure to replace lightbulbs or sitting quietly at an occasional City Hall while some permit matter was discussed. Those days are long past us and our technology has drastically improved but now I’m the one frequenting the City Halls. This will be my tenth year with the company but prior to coming on board, it always felt like a member of the family.

What’s new at Porlier over the past year? 

Our biggest accomplishment over the last year was building a new custom office for our team and operations (see picture of our office below). Construction projects are not for the faint of heart but we love being in the new space and it was all worth it. As for billboards, we continue to thoughtfully add to our inventory, building nice new locations and doing some digital upgrades. We plan to continue doing so as we move forward.

What 3-4 things do you focus on the manage Porlier? 

My focus for some time has been real estate and sales. We sadly lost a key employee last year to cancer and our team really rallied to come together and move forward as a group. Administrative operations are now under my belt but we have such a great administrative team to help carry out all the needs of the company.

I hear you’re looking for a sales rep.  What’s important to you when hiring a new employee? 

We are looking to hire a second sales representative, to fill an open position. When you find someone that understands the undeniable importance of what billboards can do, especially in such a time where other mediums are so fragmented, and that person has a ton of energy to go out and sell, that is someone I want to take a look at.
