After it became clear there was not enough support to approve a proposal in Cary Illinois, for an electronic billboard, a revised plan from Liberty Outdoor Advertising was approved by the Committee of the Whole to replace the billboards at 65 Northwest Highway with new print signs.
The new billboards will have a faux stone base with a monument style appearance instead of a pole design. The 72-square-foot signs will replace the existing billboards, which have been in place for more than 30 years.
The old billboards had been scheduled for removal in June 2015, but the Village Board granted a one-year extension to discuss the future of the signs.
In April, the Village Administrator told the board there was no consensus on proceeding with the electronic boards, and Liberty subsequently proposed simply replacing the print signs.
A vote for official approval of the signs will take place at the July 5 Village Board meeting.
