Lamar appeals Pittsburgh Mt Wash sign decision

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Triblive report that Lamar Advertising has filed an appeal in Allegheny County Court to overturn a Feb 16 decision by the Pittsburgh Zoning Board of Adjustment which ordered the removal of a 32 by 225 foot vinyl banner on Mt Washington.

Lamar’s suit makes the following points:

  • It put up the banner after the city failed to act for 2 years on its request to modernize the former Bayer sign on Mt Washington.
  • The banner is not a new sign but is the continued use of a billboard which has been in use for 90 years.
  • Lamar’s first amendment right have been violated.
