Kurt Tingey on Latin American Billboards

Kurt Tingey

We read with interested an article recently published in Billboard Insider about Costa Rica and the differing billboard building styles and adherence to or lack of ordinances.  While it is true that at times LatAm lacks the uniformity of the U.S., what shines through is good business practices.  We have found that advertisers will pay more for and become repeat customers of those with well built and maintained structures appropriately spaced for best viewing.

Something unique that is derived from less regulation is the ability to innovate quickly and experiment with new concepts.  Smart Cities is one of those innovations.  While the term “Smart Cities” applies to many things, here we are talking about Kiosks that provide critical information to cities, pedestrians, and businesses – all paid for via advertising.   The concept is nothing new, there are clocks with advertising in Mexico City and other examples, but we are looking forward with much more sophisticated offerings.

The proper execution of innovations, coupled with great business practices will always be ahead of regulations.  Next time you are in Central America, look for our superior built and maintained structures.  You may even see Smart Cities in your favorite U.S. or LatAm destinations.
