Kelly Gray on a Recovering Seattle OOH Market

Kelly Gray has more than 35 years experience selling out of home.  He is currently a Senior Account Manager for Pacific Outdoor in Seattle.  Billboard Insider talked with Kelly about trends in the Seattle out of home market.

What trends do you see in the national out of home sales market?

In Seattle we’re seeing a good mix of categories: movies and television, alcohol brands, tourism, automotive, banking, and packaged goods.

Seattle was hit hard by the pandemic.  Has it come back?

Yes! Seattle has seen an uptick in pedestrian traffic downtown as well as vehicular traffic along Interstate 5 and other main highways in the area. Elements that contribute to a healthy city; more neighborhood specific events especially around downtown, out-of-town visitors (1.7M visitors from cruise ships in 2023), higher hotel demand and occupancy, and residential population growth, are on the rise according to Downtown Seattle Association data. That recovery is likely to continue accelerating in the months and years ahead with a summer full of big events and concerts as well as NCAA March madness in 2025, and the opening of the city’s new waterfront in 2025 and FIFA World Cup in 2026.

In addition to Seattle, the greater area shows promising progress since the pandemic as well. Tacoma to the south was noted in the top 5 “Booming Cities in America” to live by the Today Show and, named one of the “Happiest Towns in America” by Outside Inc. this past year.

To the north, closely connected Snohomish County is one of the fastest growing counties in the State and a hub for the regions largest manufacturing, aerospace, and tech companies.

Why should Seattle be part of a large national advertising campaign.

Diverse audience from residents to tourists, consistent and large-scale events, high household incomes, and heavy traffic day-in, day-out. Pacific Outdoor covers the entire Seattle metro area with high-profile and strategically placed Walls downtown, as well as Traditional and Digital Bulletins on high volume interstates and highways.
