Jason Swing, Founder and CEO, Swing Media

Swing Media was founded in 1998 to assist clients with out of home buying.  Jason Swing is the company’s founder.  Majd Elias is President.  Insider talked with founder and CEO Jason Swing.

Jason, how did you get involved in out of home?

I was an interior designer for Hollywood’s A list celebs and fashion brand founders by family traded and in 1997 I built a newsstand on Sunset Strip across from Chateau Marmont for income diversification. Beau Palley, the owner of Orion Outdoor at the time had his office near the newsstand, so he would come by to pick up magazines and we would chat about our industries. We ended up being good friends and one day he told me that if any of my interior design clients would wanna do billboards, and will teach me the ropes of OOH. So I did exactly that. I started with Joe’s Jeans, BCBG and True Religion, next thing you know, we had almost every fashion brand as a client.

Tell us about your company.

We’ve been around for 23 years and are in the top 50 DMA in the US, the top 4 in Canada and parts of Europe. With so much experience comes unique relationships with clients as well as vendors and better understanding of each market which our clients get to benefit from. Whether it’s billboards, taxi tops, double decker buses, mass transit, wallscapes or a digital in Times Square, our clients appreciate our versatility and extensive knowledge of the OOH space and what we can offer their brand. Our portfolio is made up of a wide spectrum that ranges from fashion and nightlife to jewelry, spirits and food & beverage. We enjoy working with local mom and pop shops just as much as the national and global brands. They bring different challenges, so we always have to put different thinking caps on and shift gears accordingly which keeps us on our toes continuously. LA being our backyard, it is our #1 market making us the largest privately owned media buyer in LA and with the most perms (annual contracts). We are also the largest LA based media buyer for fashion (Armani, Boohoo, Fashion Nova, Frame, Guess, Hudson, Jessica Simpsons, Joe’s Jeans, Nasty Gal, Bebe, Max Mara, Skims, Ulla Johnson, etc.) and nightlife (Drai’s, Hakkasan, Light, Omnia, Wet Republic, Wynn, etc.). NY is our second biggest market.

Are markets coming back from covid?

Yes, slowly but surely. LA has been back since Q4 of last year. Miami has been very active this year and NY has been coming back slowly. These past few weeks, we’ve seen a significant uptick in RFP’s in other markets which is great news for OOH.

Talk about a recent project .

Cacti trusted Swing Media with its national campaign not only because of our existing relationship with the Cactus Jack team (Travis Scott management), but also because we’ve successfully executed a number of National campaigns for beverage brands. National campaigns are fun but demanding.

The Cacti campaign was lots of fun but very well executed with a great coordinated effort between every party involved. It was definitely a full 360 campaign execution via social media, TV, radio, online, experiential and of course Out Of Home, which we feel very blessed and privileged for having executed that portion of the campaign in all the different markets across the U.S. It was a big production to coordinate, so big kudos to the Cactus Jack team, the Anheuser Busch team and everyone in between for pulling this off flawlessly.   Swing Media did 99% of the OOH for Cacti.
