What might have been is not what is. Developers have dropped plans for a three story electronic billboard as part of a $50 million development project in downtown Indianapolis according to the Indianapolis Business Journal. The developer dropped their plans after the Indianapolis Historic Preservation Commission made clear that it would not approve the billboard.
Indianapolis has a ban on new digital billboards and it is impossible to site a new billboard inside the 465 loop around Indianapolis unless you win litigation against the city as GEFT Outdoor has done. It’s a pity that Indianapolis has such a knee jerk reaction against digital signs. Digital signs have has a huge positive impact on Baltimore and Nashville as you can see from today’s Why Ogilvy Was Wrong About Billboards post.
