One of the causes that the Independent Billboard Operators supports is Operation Christmas Child. Billboard Insider talked with Operation Christmas Child Media Relations Manager Dana Williams.
Tell us about Operation Christmas Child
Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse that delivers shoeboxes filled with toys, hygiene items, and school supplies to children around the world as a tangible expression of God’s love through the hands of local partners to share the Good News of Jesus Christ, God’s Greatest Gift. Some stats:
- Since 1993, more than 188 million children in over 170 countries and territories have received a shoebox gift.
- In 2020, more than 9.1 million shoebox gifts were collected worldwide, 7.8 million of which came from the U.S.
- Shoebox gifts are collected in the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, Finland, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea.
We’ve set a 2021 goal to collect enough shoebox gifts to reach an additional 9.7 million children.
How can out of home operators help?

What out of home operators are involved.
We asked folks to use a self-reporting process / a survey tool to let us know if they donated space. Some just don’t want the credit 😉 even though we want to know for sharing their company info with our staff and volunteers nationwide (and for our reporting of course). But you can see the 2019 then 2020 donors who told us about their support through that survey we sent out. But I believe there are many, many more who just didn’t get around to reporting their donations. We sent letters acknowledging the value of their gift-in-kind donations.
