About a year ago, an out of home campaign began in Texas that would honor Veteran’s while helping support the planned National Mounted Warrior Museum in Fort Hood, TX. Honor a Vet, Buy a Brick was born. Through the support of numerous outdoor companies, billboards were donated to encourage friends and family to make a donation and honor their loved ones with a personalized brick paver on the museum grounds. Funds raised go to support the museum which held a groundbreaking ceremony in November 2020, and anticipates opening doors to visitors in late 2022.
The National Mounted Warrior Foundation had planned several fundraisers in 2020 to kick off the campaign, however with COVID-19 all gatherings had to be cancelled including a large gala and auction. So the brick campaign has been their only way to bring in funds. Fortunately the OOH medium is powerful! Several OOH providers have donated space – static and digital – that has helped raise over $100,000 in brick paver donations thus far.
Retired Lieutenant Colonel Robert S. Crouch, Vice President of the Foundation and Trey Goldsmith, Marketing Director, attended the IBO conference in Kansas City last week to share the success of the campaign and recognize the participation of dozen IBO operators that had contributed to the campaign thus far. Crouch shared his passion for the museum as a way to capture and share the stories, that so often go untold, of Veterans who have served our country. Vets are encouraged to tell their story viaan easy to complete form on the foundation site. https://nmwfoundation.org/tellusyourstory
Camel City designed the art and has printed vinyls for the donated space. Says Goldsmith, “You provide the space, we’ll cover your install cost and provide the vinyl. Plus you can customize the art to recognize a veteran(s) of your choosing. And they will get a place in history on a brick paver at the museum!” Digital billboard space is also welcome.
With Memorial Day approaching, this is a great way to recognize our veterans for their service! You can honor a loved one by placing a Veteran’s name on a brick at the National Mounted Warrior Museum at Fort Hood, Texas. Honorees from all branches of service are welcome, and service at Ft Hood is not a requirement. Bricks are available in two sizes: 4” x 8” for $100 and 8” x 8” for $200.
