Fugitive Sees Photo on Billboards, Turns Self In

On Monday, the US Marshals Service posted this MOST WANTED photo on billboards.  The fugitive saw his image on billboards, and turned himself in . . . the next day (March 27).  In Cedar Rapids, IA, Mary Porth, office manager for Lamar Advertising Company, tells the story:

“On Friday (March 23), US Marshals (Northern District of Iowa) sent me information on Gage Rupp who was wanted on a firearms charge (for allegedly shooting up a house, causing injury).

Monday (March 26), US Marshals approved the billboard art. The design began running in three locations in Cedar Rapids Monday morning.

On Tuesday (March 27), the US Marshals office called me, to say that Gage Rupp saw his face on billboards and called an attorney. He wanted to turn himself in.

The US Marshals Service said they expected this arrest to be a shootout because of the number of firearms this individual had in his possession.  Instead, he walked into their office and turned himself in because of the billboards.”

Press reports show this suspect has had previous encounters with the law:

Insider’s take:  Billboards are a great tool for assisting law enforcement and public safety agencies.  Don’t be shy about pointing this out the next time you are in front of a city council or zoning board.
