Framingham approves ad supported charging stations

Metro West Daily News reports that Framingham, Massachusetts  Planning Board voted 4-1 to permit Volta to install  six electric vehicle charging stations which will be financed via advertising on the station.  Volta is active in 20 communities across the US.

Insider’s take:  Expect to see more of this as cities looks to finance smart city services with advertising.   A risk to out of home companies is that in the rush to approve new services cities will permit new entrants to do an end run around the existing sign code.  There needs to be a level playing field for everyone. We’ll write more about this in the future.
