Formetco’s Safety Director Jim Poage Announces Retirement

Rumors have been circulating lately about Jim Poage’s retirement from the industry. Billboard Insider decided to reach out to Jim to find out more about his retirement plans.

Jim Poage, Formetco

So Jim, you’ve had quite the career in the outdoor advertising industry.

Yes, starting with Eller Media in 1998 and now finishing up with Formetco, it has been 27 amazing years.

I believe that you were one of the first dedicated safety professionals in the industry.

That’s true. Bob Chesonis at Outfront and Chuck Wigger at Lamar were also brought on around the same time, so the three of us have always worked very closely on trying to make the industry as safe as possible. As a group, we recognized that there is no competition between the companies where safety is involved. I believe I can honestly say that we are not only peers, but good friends as well.

And now, you are looking at retirement?

I am. I feel it’s time. I’m looking forward to spending time with the family and traveling some, but I will always be available to do client classes for Formetco and to help any of the smaller operators out there with safety concerns.

Is Formetco hiring someone for your position?

Yes, and ideally someone from in the outdoor field. That way they already have experience in the industry and understand the nuances of working with installation crews and technical support personnel when it comes to advertising. So, if you are looking for a safety position and have experience in outdoor advertising, contact Brian Labella at brianl@formetco.com to get more details.

What is your time frame for leaving Formetco?

I plan on continuing to support them through 2025 so that they can find the right person to replace me and allow me some time with them to help acclimate them to the Formetco ways. Then, in 2026, I will be doing training and special projects, and in 2027 I will be looking at being retired or helping in an advisory role.

How does Formetco feel about you retiring?

Formetco has been nothing but great towards me since my first day with them. They are sad I am looking at leaving, but happy that I will always be there if they need me, and they fully understand the desire to spend more time with family. I can’t say enough good things about this company, so changing to another chapter in my life will definitely be a challenge.

Jim, we wish you all the best in the future and appreciate all you have done for our industry. If any of our readers are interested in learning more about the safety position at Formetco, please reach out to their HR department at the email previously mentioned.
