Former State Rep. Gerald McCormick Dies After Battle with ALS

Insider saw this posting in the Chattanooga Times.

Former state Rep. Gerald McCormick, a Republican who represented Hamilton County in the Tennessee General Assembly for 14 years, has died. He was 63.

McCormick served as the House majority leader and resigned in 2018 to work in the private sector. In 2020, he was diagnosed with ALS.

Reagan Outdoor’s Chattanooga office followed up with this Facebook post:

Today, we honor the life and legacy of Gerald McCormick, our former Real Estate Manager, former State House Majority Leader, former Tennessee House District 26 Representative, and most of all, dear friend who lost his battle with ALS overnight.

Gerald was instrumental in the development of many of the billboards you see around Chattanooga today, working here during most of 2000’s under the Clear Channel Outdoor nameplate. Gerald was a Gulf War Veteran, a husband to Kim, father to Scottie and Cooper, a servant to our local community and state, and an overall great human being.

Gerald used his battle with ALS as another opportunity to serve those around him by partnering with the ALS association. “Use me while you got me,” Gerald’s quote from the ALS association website, embodies what Gerald stood for all of his life, service above self to others as he spread awareness about the disease and research opportunities.

This week, Reagan Outdoor Advertising-Chattanooga, along with other billboard partners in our area, are honored to be running tributes created by our creative director, Jason Parscale, honoring our friend.

Gerald, Thank You for your service and for making our world brighter than you found it.

Insider sends our prayers and wishes to Geralds’ family.
