Former Presidents Appear on Billboards Supporting Hurricane Recovery

By Ken Klein, Executive Vice President, OAAA

The living former Presidents will appear on billboards as part of a national, nonpartisan campaign to support hurricane recovery.

“Never a better time for a call to unity,” said Tom Norton of Norton Outdoor Advertising in Cincinnati.

“So great to see our past Presidents all working together on this,” said Jack Sullivan at the Starcom ad agency in Chicago.  Creative is available in multiple out of home formats from the Outdoor Advertising Association of America at this link: http://oaaa.org/AboutOOH/PublicService/CurrentCampaigns.aspx

Putting differences aside, former Presidents George Bush (father and son), Carter, Clinton and Obama are leasing a campaign called One America Appeal.

The billboard industry’s participation in the presidential campaign complements donated space on digital billboards for emergency messaging in affected areas.

In Florida, the well-organized outdoor advertising association provided multiple templates as Hurricane Irma threatened the state.

In Texas, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) activated donated billboards in coastal areas immediately after Hurricane Harvey made landfall, featuring FEMA’s toll-free number and web address.  Chad McCormick of FEMA described the industry’s response as outstanding.
