• FOARE Awards Scholarships to Future Urban Planners

The Foundation for Outdoor Advertising Research and Education (FOARE) has awarded scholarships to two graduate students with a future in community planning. The Reagan Family Scholarship Endowment, awarded to graduate students studying city or urban planning or a similar discipline, is intended to help groom a new generation of leaders and managers in the standardized OOH advertising industry.

The recipients of the 2019-2020 Reagan Family scholarships:

Bryan Head is entering his first year of graduate school at the University of Utah, seeking a Master of City and Metropolitan Planning (MCMP). His research interests focus on active transportation and transportation demand management.

“To me, urban planning is an opportunity to solve real problems that affect real people,” said Head. “With more people moving to urban areas, planners and engineers have to reshape the transportation system to be able to support the higher number of residents without simply laying down more asphalt.”

Tatum Troutt is seeking a Masters of Science in Regional and Community Planning (MSCRP) fro the Univeristy of Texas at Austin.

Troutt is a Graduate Research Assistant with the School of Architecture at the University of Texas. She is researching sport facilities and their impact on communities, analyzing the socio-cultural and economic impacts of hosting sports teams and using public subsidies for stadiums and arenas.

“In my planning law course, we discussed extensively the regulations on out of home advertising imposed by planning,” she said. “I am also aware of the impacts it has on urban design and human behavior as well as its increasing importance in the transportation sector.”

Each recipient will receive a $2,000 scholarship.

The Reagan Family, which established the Reagan Foundation, are the founders and operators of the Reagan Companies, an OOH advertising company that operates in Salt Lake City, Austin, and Las Vegas. The scholarship was established to recognize the contributions of The Reagan Foundation to the OOH advertising industry.

FOARE will award 10 more scholarships in August to undergraduate and graduate students. A record number of scholarship applications were received this year.

The Scholarship Program supports the education and career goals of those who are part of the OOH advertising industry family along with other students pursuing a course of study related to the industry.
