Google’s got a driverless car running around Insider’s hometown of Kirkland, WA. Here’s a Google video about the driverless car.
Will driverless cars hurt the outdoor advertising business? Insider doesn’t think so. There are plenty of non-driving people in vehicles right now. They’re called passengers. Many of them still look out the window. Check out the bus or minivan or uber/lyft car or carpool vehicle passing you. Eyes out the window means there’s still a place for billboards.
Insider thinks driverless cars may actually help the outdoor industry by removing the “driver distraction argument” which is the most common objection raised against digital signs. This could mean fewer digital sign bans.
