A young congressional staff person posed an interesting question this week: “who made the (electronic) roll call vote panels at the US House of Representatives?”
“It is a Daktronics system, sold through an integrator by the name of International Roll Call,” explained Jeremy Johnson at Daktronics headquarters in Brookings, SD.
Daktronics was started in 1968 by two engineering professors at South Dakota State University who invented new products and created jobs. Daktronics patented a wrestling scoreboard in 1971; its scoreboards were first at the Olympics in 1976. Its products, which include digital billboards, are sold worldwide.
Insider’s take: The technology that drives out of home media is impressive by any standard, and is an important part of our history and national pride.
